The 4-Year Sejm (1788–1792) was the scene of bitter arguments more than the status of Jews, and petitions have been delivered to it by each Jews and Christian burghers, every single stating their points of view. The burghers had strongly opposed any improvement in the status of the Jews, and in March 1790 furriers and tailors assembled at the city hall to demand the expulsion of these Jews who had succeeded in settling in Warsaw.
